Codes and conventions

What are codes? Codes are systems of signs, which create meaning. Codes can be divided into two categories – technical and symbolic. Technical codes are all the ways in which equipment is used to tell the story in a media text, for example the camera work in a film. Symbolic codes show what is beneath the surface of what we see. For example, a character's actions show you how the character is feeling. Some codes fit both categories – music for example, is both technical and symbolic. What are conventions? Conventions are the generally accepted ways of doing something. My Baguio Trip

March 24, 2016. After almost a month of planning, I can't believe we were able to pull off an Instameet in Baguio. We were worried at first because the day before we were supposed to leave Manila, we were told that the weather in Baguio was really bad. A lot of people were asking if the event was cancelled. We had our fingers crossed for the weather to improve. Luckily, later in the afternoon, the weather improved and we decided to push through. So glad that we decided to push through because when we got there the weather was perfect. It was cold and sunny! Probably one of the highlights of our Instameet is our visit to The Diplomate Hotel in Dominican Hill. This place is known for being one of the most haunted places in the Philippines. Luckily, I didn't encounter anything supernatural. One weird thing is it was so much colder inside the building than outside.  We got lucky that the person in charge of the place allowed us to go to the closed area of the second floor...
